Chairs are probably the furniture makers greatest challenge and best opportunity for expression. I make a lot of sets of carvers (dining chairs with arms) to go with my tables. They are conducive to relaxed dining.
A good chair makes you not want to get up again. After the initial design work is completed I make a prototype from softwood to develop the joints to be used, but also so that I can fit the chair to the client and make whatever changes are required to improve their comfort.
Our chairs are built using mostly mortice and tenon joints from a variety of hardwoods like bluegum, rosegum, wattle and walnut, and occasionally softer woods like silky oak and Queensland Maple. Most of our tables are demountable for shipping, allowing us to ship worldwide.
